This is one of the most fascinating books I've read this year, the story is engaging with a few surprising twists, and the background is detailed and with a little biography at the end to put some true references to the story.
This is a story with multiple stories inside, the Bosnian conflict, a neglecting mother, a loss friendship, war survivors... all of them collude in this story, making it different and quite a sensible read.
The sentence that shocked me most in this book was "You live and you remember", so many emotions in just a few words... because if we don't remember the victims of the war who will? I can assure you this sentence will be with me for a long time.
Everything starts with the body in the cliffs, it was a suicide or a murder? Could it be that Cristopher Drayton was a war criminal? That's the question that is popped since the beginning in the book. And if he was one, who knows his real identity and wants to kill him? Why not denounce him to the police to go to prison? So many questions, so many suspects!
There are a lot of characters involved in this story and sometimes you feel that there's something more hidden between all of them. But that made the book interesting, there were so many links, suspects and information that the end was quite unsuspected!
I know this is the first book of the series Rachel Getty and Esa Khattak so possibly all the story between them has evolved since the first book, so I will have to follow to the next books, because I would want to know more about the weird situation Rachel has at home, with a brother missing for seven years... and of course who was the first woman Esa was married?
