A Cajun Christmas Killing by Ellen Byron - Blog Tour + Giveaway!

Best Day Ever by Kaira Rouda
Genre: Cozy Mystery
Source: Great Escapes
Rating: 4/5

Maggie Crozat loves to help her family at the B&B at Pelican, Louisiana, the only problem is that she seems to be a magnet for killings... but good for her that always her family and friends help her to solve the mystery. Ready for a Cajun killing?

'"He smells like sweat and gasoline," Gran' said as she watched him go. "It's surprisingly appealing. Did you know he once wrestled and alligator?"
"Half the guys in Louisiana claim they've wrestled an alligator. If alligators could roll their eyes, they'd be doing it."'

I know that family problems are bad but if you mix them with murders they will be more difficult to solve, for sure. One of the strongest points of this book was all the characters that participate in the story, they are well described and it makes the story interesting and a delight to read. Maggie's life is a roller coaster but takes time to take care of her family and friends, and investigate murders, of course.
This has been a good read, with humour, mystery and a little bit of love. This book has made me travel to Louisiana and discover a killer, not all the books can make you to be immersed in the plot and have chemistry with them since the first page, so I am sure I will search for the next book of Maggie Crozat, I want to know more about this little village and their neighbours!
This book has quite a complex plot, with a lot of subplots making more difficult to discover the killer,  and let me say it, more interesting to the reader. All the main characters could have a motive to kill, even Maggie, so, who is the real killer?
Reading about all the delicious recipes on the book was making me quite hungry so it was quite a surprise when I arrived at the end of the book and there were a few of them to make at home!
This is the third book of the Cajun Country Mystery Series, but you can read it as standalone, all the characters and relations between them are well explained and you can not miss anything.
Are you searching for a peaceful place to disconnect for a few days?

Interested? Good luck in the Giveaway!

Best Day Ever by Kaira Rouda

Best Day Ever by Kaira Rouda

Mia and Paul are driving to their favourite cottage to celebrate their best day ever... they are wealthy, in love and have a beautiful family... What could go wrong?

"The sun blasts through my driver's side window with such intensity I feel urge to hold my hand up to the side of my face to shield my eyes, even though my sunglasses are dark and should be doing the job. Under any other circumstances, on any other day, they would be, I know. But today, something is different between us; some strange tension pulses through the still air of the car's interior. I cannot see it, but it's here. I'd like to name it. Discover its source and eliminate it."

As we start reading the "Best Day Ever" we notice that there's something obscure with this "perfect couple". Paul, the husband, seems to have a lot of secrets and is being quite dictatorial with his wife, but at the same time it looks like he loves her and is concerned about her healthy... or is this just appearance?
This is a gripping and chilling story, where in every page we turn the fear grows inside us...
The story is told by Paul, we could read his thoughts and memories, but as we read more and more, his thoughts are darker and we start fearing about Mia's life... is he ready to kill or it's simply a bad feeling we have?
This is not just a psychological thriller, it's a sneak peak to devious mind, without feelings, love or care for anyone except himself. Be prepared to bite your nails as the end of the book approaches, because there's a surprise at the end of the night, and I am sure you don't want to miss it!
Ready for the Best Day Ever?

When the sheriff Kenni Lowry sees her ghost father again, knows that a killing will be done soon, but who and why? All the village seem to be gossiping about a mysterious book, could be the killing related? Continue reading and you will discover all the dark secrets of this small village! ;)

'"What are you ladies talking about" I asked after I'd moseyed on over to Stella and Toots Buford.
"You know," Toots chomped on her gum, "just the usual gossip that don't mean nothing."
I nodded and plucked a grape off the fruit plate and tossed it in my mouth. Stella didn't miss a mark.
"You hear about the Stone estate going up for auction?" She asked.
"Why do you have to gossip with the sheriff?" Toots clucked and rolled her eyes.
"It's Kenni." Stella gave me a sideways glance. Obviously she needed to make herself better about telling me because she followed up with, "She might know something. I bet they're going to need extra security."'

Kenni loves to be the sheriff and help the people in her hometown, what she doesn't like is being the cover in the newspapers and the main theme of all the gossips... if you add a murder and a hot kiss you can understand that she needs some relax time, but before she will have to discover who is the killer!
Let me say that I read this book in one stand, the quick dialogues, the funny gossiping and the charming neighbour makes this book a funny and interesting read at the same time. The writing is quick and full of dialogues that kept you wanting for more.
I missed a little of background about Kenni's family, but I suppose this was explained in the previous books... but I need to know more about the noisy mother and her ghostly father, that seem to be very present and put a lot of fun in the plot. I can't wait to read in the next book when the things will start warming up between Kenni and her colleague Finn (or I expect they'll be...) that Edna (the reporter) will have some very interesting news to share on the newspaper!
If you are searching for a mystery with charming characters and very noisy neighbours this is your book, it will keep you entertained, for sure.
This is the third book of "The Kenni Lowry Mystery Series", but you can read it as standalone.
Ready to search a secret book?

Passport To Murder by Mary Angela - Great Escapes Blog Tour

When the professor Emmeline Prather was preparing her first travel to Paris she couldn't ever imagined that it would end with murder... but being 13 on the trip was never a good sign, don't you think?

'I shook my head in disagreement. "Everyone has a backstory. What details they choose to leave out are just as important as the ones they choose to tell."
"Just be careful, Em. I'm not particularly keen on the guy, but that doesn't mean I want you to kill your chances of teaching in an actual French Departments with a few ill-timed questions. You know how sensitive he can be when he thinks he's being insulted."'

Working at the university is never easy, but I was surprised that in this book almost all the professors had a good relation, there were only some minimal problems. At the same time it was quite interesting because almost all the possible murders were professors or students, so... who had really a good motive to kill?
In the university they are lucky that Em loves mysteries and let me tell you a secret, if there's not a mystery, she will create one, she loves stories and love to investigate, if she feels that something is not right, she will investigate, so, don't hide any dirty secret to Em, she will always discover it!
I loved the relation between Em and Lenny, I don't know if they will have a relationship or simply friends, but they have chemistry and they understand each other, their scenes together were my favourite in all the book, Lenny makes Em brighter, funnier and sharper, I hope he will stay for good.
This is the second book of the series "Professor Prather Mystery" but you can read it as standalone.
This is a quick read, with a curious mystery, a quite variety of suspects and a mystery peanut.
Ready for a trip to Paris?

Stars Hollow Coloring Book

A few months ago I backed the Stars Hollow Coloring Book, but I didn't had the chance to share it with you, so here it is! ;)

It's a 7x7" book with 60 perforated (easy to tear out), high-quality pages. It's filled with quotes and scenes from the famous series Gilmore Girls, and is designed by several different artists.

I am not an artist, so don't expect to see amazing pieces of art, but here are my tries to colour this lovely book...
