It's 1974, and Atlanta is targeted by a serial cop killer. The fear is in the street, all the cops, men, women, black and white people must fight together against this brutal enemy. But not all of them are willing to fraternize with people not being white men.

"Oma asked, "How are the people at work? Did you make any new friends?" Kate would have laughed if she'd had the energy. "They're fantastic. It's like Seneca Falls without the organization or camaraderie.""

"I think the most galling part is that I never realized how smart I am about things that have absolutely no consequence in the real world"

Jimmy Lawson with his partner dead, hides some important things about the case.
Maggie Lawson, Jimmy's sister, a cop detective trying to solve the mystery without the help of her police partners.
Kate Murphy, her first day in the force, suffering the mocks from all the officers, and with her own ghosts.
All of them must share their secrets if they want to stay alive.
The case will be solved at the end of the book, but I hope we will know more about their lives after this case.
If you have read any of the Karin Slaughter's books, you know that you love the book not just for the plot but for the characters. This time, she shows you how was Atlanta district's police in 1970; with homophobia, racism and misogyny.
